Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Friday said that Riyan Parag will need to show ‘versatility’ in batting at different positions to have a chance of making it into the current national ODI set-up.

Ashwin made the remark on the social media platform X. The conversation began when former Bengal cricketer Shreevats Goswami raised a point about how Tilak Varma was better suited to the role of batting all-rounder that Washington Sundar was playing in the team.

A third user replied to Goswami that Parag would have been perfect for the role, and the cricketer took exception to it, saying it was his ‘PR’ that was spreading these ‘fan-club’ like statements because the Assam captain was ‘nowhere close’ to the team.
