Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance on Friday apprehended Gouranga Sahu, Forester of the Bandhbahal Section under the Brajrajnagar Range in Jharsuguda district, while he was allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.

According to an official press release, Sahu reportedly asked the money from a landowner in exchange for permission to cut and transport dry Eucalyptus trees from his property. The landowner alerted Vigilance authorities, prompting an immediate operation.

The Vigilance team caught Sahu inside his office campus while he was collecting the bribe. He reportedly tried to flee upon spotting the officials, but was successfully apprehended. The entire amount of Rs 5,000 was recovered and seized.

Following the arrest, Vigilance officials have conducted simultaneous searches
