LONDON — Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands and Slovenia said Thursday that they were boycotting next year’s Eurovision Song Contest because Israel would continue to be allowed in the competition.

Many Eurovision fans have agonized over Israel’s participation since its military began an incursion into the Gaza Strip after the Hamas-led attacks two years ago. As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza deepened, several member countries said Israel should no longer take part in the musical event.

On Thursday, Israel’s participation in the contest was left unchanged during a meeting of Eurovision’s organizer, the European Broadcasting Union.
