A woman believed she had found her mum dead in bed after the pensioner's fiancé left her with a broken neck. Alvin Baker deliberately slammed on the brakes of his taxi "out of nowhere" while his partner was sitting in the back without her seatbelt on.

Despite the incident having left her with a spinal cord injury, he then left his wife-to-be to recuperate in bed while he went to work without seeking medical assistance. Paramedics only belatedly came to her aid the following day and were left "shocked" to find her face still covered in blood.
