The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has a new undersheriff.

After almost a year without an official No. 2, Sheriff Gary Schuette promoted jail administrator Anthony Stewart on Nov. 10.

Schuette said Stewart was his first choice after prior undersheriff Chris Simpson left to become chief of the Jackson Police Department.
