The heartbroken family of a mum who died after being infected with rabies from a dog scratch have questioned whether the NHS was adequately prepared to handle her condition, a pre-inquest review heard.

Yvonne Ford, 59, passed away four months after receiving a minor scratch from a puppy whilst holidaying in Morocco. She contracted rabies from the wound and died at a hospital in Sheffield on June 11, YorkshireLive reports .

Her husband, Ron Ford, and daughter, Robyn Thomson, were present at Sheffield's Medico-Legal Centre today (December 5) for the preliminary hearing ahead of next year's full inquest.Six witnesses were selected to give evidence before an inquest jury due to the disease being categorised as "notifiable".
