A developer behind a plan for a seven-storey residential building — where the demolition of a historic Ancaster home sparked outrage — has launched a tribunal challenge to move the project forward.

That’s disappointing, says Coun. Craig Cassar, noting the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) appeal for the Wilson Street East project takes city politicians out of the planning equation.

“The main issue that I have is with the process and the fact that local decision-makers, council, are not able to decide what gets built,” the Ancaster councillor said.

The proposal for the corner of Wilson and Rousseaux streets drew ire from heritage advocates when the developer razed the historic Brandon House in 2020 after securing a city permit. Hamilton Region
