Airfares on certain key routes touched record levels over the past three days following the nation-wide cancellation of flights operated by the market leader IndiGo.

A one-way ticket of SpiceJet from Kolkata to Mumbai was priced at Rs 90,282 while that of Air India was priced at Rs 43,000, which is 15-fold and 7-fold higher than the typical fares seen on this route.

The cheapest direct flight from Goa to Mumbai for December 6 was available from Akasa Air at Rs 21,600, which was more than four times the average rates on this route. Mumbai had seen 104 flight cancellations by IndiGo.

Cancellation of all flights by IndiGo from Delhi on December 5, led to a spike in ticket price of other airlines. Air India’s direct flight for Mumbai from Delhi for December 5 was priced at Rs 26,000.
