HUNTSVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Scott County Election Commission overspent by thousands for conference lodging between July 2023 and December 2024, according to a report from the Tennessee Comptroller’s Office . The office also accused the commission of paying for meals for commissioner spouses.
The report, released last month, said the commission reimbursed “questionable” expenses amounting to $3,175.45 for 17 rooms over the course of about a year.
Specifically, the report said the commission approved expenses in some cases more than three times what the county’s policy would allow. For example, the report said the election commission approved $1,063.54 in lodging on Dec. 5, 2023, but was only supposed to approve $329.04.
