Former US consular officer and researcher Simon Hankinson argued that the H-1B visa programme had been diverted from its original purpose. Hankinson, who conducted his first H-1B visa interview in India 25 years ago, stated that early in his career he became convinced that many visa recipients were "average college-graduate workers", rather than the highly skilled specialists the programme was intended to attract.
Hankinson alleged that something is seriously wrong with the visa programme, urging urgent reforms to "safeguard American workers".
"Our consensus: the H-1B visa has badly deviated from its original intent and needs significant reform to put American workers first," he wrote in his opinion piece for Fox News.
