East Ridge High School was placed on lockdown after a gun was found on campus on Friday morning, according to school officials.

In a voice message sent out to parents, Lake County Schools said they became aware of a gun on campus and secured the weapon.

The gun was found in a metal lockbox.

Out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed on lockdown, and law enforcement are on site.

The lockdown will be lifted as soon as law enforcement determines it is safe to proceed.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office said two students were arrested.

The charges they are facing include possession of a firearm by a minor, disruption of a school function and possession of a weapon on school grounds, deputies said.
