With shiny dark green leaves, fragrant star-like flowers, and edible fruits, citrus trees are a rewarding addition to any houseplant collection . Many types can be grown in the landscape in USDA plant hardiness zones 10 and warmer (find your zone here ). Many cultivars, especially dwarf types, do well in containers so you can grow them wherever you live.

This time of year many buy citrus trees as gifts or festive decorations that can stick around after the holidays. (Last year, one Country Living editor even used one as her Christmas tree!) However, be forewarned—citrus trees are delightful plants, but they do require some TLC and won’t tolerate neglect.
