Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a suspected wire thief early Thursday morning.
They found the 53-year-old Port Orchard man around 3:45 a.m. in the 5500 block of SE Nelson Rd. in Olalla.

Deputies had received a tip about possible wire theft in that area.
“The suspect was standing by the roadside wearing a headlamp and claimed he was waiting for a friend to drive him to work,” the sheriff’s office stated in a Facebook post . “Deputies soon located several hundred feet of wire that someone had just cut down from nearby power poles.”
They also found cutting tools in a duffel bag they say belonged to the man.
The damage to the cut wires is estimated at approximately $7,000.
