Alex Mortensen, the son of late ESPN NFL insider Chris Mortensen, has been named the head football coach at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, according to reports.

Mortensen, 40, took over as the Blazers’ interim head coach in October after head coach and former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer was fired following a 2-4 start to the season. Mortensen also led UAB to a 2-4 record in his six games as interim head coach, including a 31-24 upset win over No. 22 Memphis in his first game as the Blazers’ coach.

Mortensen previously served as UAB’s offensive coordinator after joining the program in December 2022.
