Passengers from Tripura, neighbouring states, and even Bangladesh, many travelling for urgent medical needs, were caught completely off guard.
Chaos erupted at the Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala, Tripura, today as IndiGo, the airline operating the bulk of the airport’s nearly 30 daily flights abruptly cancelled all its services, leaving hundreds stranded and thousands facing severe disruption.
The sudden move left passengers stranded and threw travel plans for many into disarray.
The sudden shutdown at Tripura’s lone operational airport, with footfall of some 4500 to 5000 air passengers daily and is also the second busiest in the Northeast, created widespread chaos.
