For the second year in a row , Hipster Santa has decamped to the ‘burbs.

Once a fixture of downtown Portland holiday traditions, Hipster Santa made his debut at Pioneer Place mall in 2015, smack dab in the middle of the city’s “Portlandia” era .

He skipped the downtown mall in 2023 and 2024 when Pioneer Place, still recovering from the pandemic, had no Santas at all, saying its shoppers no longer expected him.

Downtown’s loss is Washington County’s gain.

Hipster Santa welcomed kiddos at Washington Square mall on Thursday night, the Tigard shopping center said. He’ll return Dec. 11 and 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. Reservations recommended .
