Mayor-elect Helena Moreno is demanding “immediate changes” to how federal immigration authorities are conducting sweeps across the metropolitan region in a three-day-old operation dubbed “Catahoula Crunch.”
Moreno will talk about the changes she is seeking at a 1 p.m. briefing with local religious leaders, advocates and other officials, according to a press release. The release indicates she wants authorities to “release critical information, remove their masks and respect the rights and due process of New Orleanians.”
Moreno has previously expressed concern about Department of Homeland Security tactics in operations in other cities, including racial profiling and excessive force.
