U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., spoke out on Friday against Netflix’s $82.7 billion deal to purchase Warner Bros. and HBO.
Netflix announced Friday the deal to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, which includes its film and TV studios, HBO and HBO Max.
The acquisition is expected to go into effect in at least a year, according to a statement from Netflix.
“This deal looks like an anti-monopoly nightmare,” Warren said in a statement on Friday. “A Netflix-Warner Bros. would create one massive media giant with control of close to half of the streaming market — threatening to force Americans into higher subscription prices and fewer choices over what and how they watch, while putting American workers at risk.”
