Former Toronto gang leader Tse Chi Lop has been sentenced to 16 years in prison in Melbourne in what the Australian media calls one of the country’s biggest law enforcement wins.
Tse, 62, was arrested in Amsterdam in 2021 on an Interpol notice from Australia, accused of conspiring to traffic commercial quantities of methamphetamine into Australia through outlaw biker gangs.
Tse, known for his sleepy appearance and multibillion dollar empire, said at the time that he was travelling to Canada, where he had lived intermittently from the 1980s to early 2010s.
He will be eligible for parole after 10 years.
He originally moved to Toronto from Hong Kong at age 25.
