In a push for greater transparency from federal authorities over recent immigration arrests in the area, the Indio City Council plans to formally request information from the federal government, following a divided vote Wednesday, Dec. 3.
The council voted 3-2 to submit a Freedom of Information Act request with the Department of Homeland Security, which includes U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The vote came after testimony from several members of the public who supported the step.
