The Florida Gators found their Bill Napier replacement this past weekend, hiring Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall as the newest program leader in Gainesville.

But before the Gators ended up with Sumrall as their next head coach, they had several other big-name coaches on their radar.

In addition to Florida's highly publicized pursuit of Lane Kiffin, the program also aggressively pursued USC Trojans head coach Lincoln Riley.

There were some rumblings that Florida wasn't interested in speaking with Riley in its coaching search, but former Gators quarterback Danny Wuerffel says that couldn't be further from the truth.

Wuerffel, who served as a special advisor in Florida's coaching search, says the Gators were doing "everything they could" to pursue Riley.
