Meghan Markle’s estranged father underwent life-saving surgery that required doctors to amputate his left leg below the knee.
The three-hour operation on Thomas Markle took place at a hospital in Cebu, Philippines, where the 81-year-old now lives with his son, Thomas Markle, Jr., the Daily Mail reported.
Doctors were forced to remove his left foot and the lower part of the limb after a blood clot cut off circulation and the leg turned black, according to the outlet.
“My dad is being very brave. His foot turned blue, and then black. It happened very quickly,” Thomas Jr. detailed to the Mail .
“I took him to a local hospital and they did some scans and an ultrasound and said the leg had to be amputated.”
He was taken to another hospital where he was rushed into surgery.
