Meaford council voted unanimously Dec. 1 not to pursue reviving the Business Improvement Area board due to apparent insufficient business interest to help run it.
Council dissolved its Business Improvement Area organization in 2022 after 44 years in support of downtown. Mainstreet Meaford took its place in June 2024 but it folded at the end of the year.

That prompted council in May to seek a staff report to gauge business interest, explore options and costs of bringing back the BIA, a report to council said this week.
A town engagement session in September drew 25 people. People indicated “streetscaping, improved public spaces, and visual enhancements” were the “most important area of focus for any potential future initiatives,” a report to council said.
