NATCHEZ, Miss. — A group of Buddhist monks on a 120-day “Walk for Peace” entered Mississippi on Friday as they continue a 2,300-mile journey from Fort Worth, Texas, to Washington, D.C.
In a post on their official Walk for Peace Facebook page, organizers said Day 41 of the trek began in Ferriday, Louisiana, with the group crossing the Mississippi River into Natchez later in the day. The monks described reaching their third state as “a historic milestone” in the long-distance pilgrimage.
The walk, led by Tykheo Tue Nhan and accompanied by a loyal dog named Aloka, is intended to promote peace, loving-kindness and compassion across the United States and around the world, according to the group.
