After BYU’s Kalani Sitake emerged as the target of Penn State’s long-running search to replace James Franklin earlier this week, we compared Sitake’s big-game chops to those of Franklin’s .

Of course, it’s well-known among Penn State fans that Franklin could never get over the hump in “big games.” He was 4-21 against AP top-10 opponents in his career and 1-10 against Ohio State. Those blemishes were among the top reasons athletic director Pat Kraft fired Franklin.

Well, Penn State’s search has again identified its top target: Iowa State’s Matt Campbell.

Campbell is the winningest coach in Iowa State program history. And at a place with far fewer resources than Penn State, he was relatively successful against top competition.
