A 51-year-old man intended to sexually assault someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl after chatting online and later texting, officials said.

Michael J. Marchionese started to chat with an undercover detective online in October and then began communicating by text message over the course of several weeks, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Marchionese then tried to arrange a meeting at an area hotel after requesting nude photographs on multiple occasions, authorities said.

U.S. Marshals arrested Marchionese at his Pine Hill home on Nov. 21. Investigators seized a phone they allege he was using to communicate with who he believed was a teenager.

Marchionese is charged with four counts of attempted manufacturing of child sexual abuse material. He also faces one count each of
