Snow and ice made for dangerous travel across Virginia on Friday, as state police responded to more than two hundred crashes by late afternoon.

Virginia State Police is urging drivers to slow down and check conditions before heading out as winter weather continues to cause problems on the roads Friday, December 5, 2025, officials said.

Since midnight, troopers have investigated 214 crashes statewide, according to Virginia State Police. Twenty-nine of those crashes resulted in injuries, and no fatalities have been reported.

The snow created issues across every region of the state, officials said.

  • In Division 2, which covers Winchester to Stafford, troopers handled 23 crashes, including four with injuries.
  • In Division 3, covering central and western Virginia, troopers worked 40 crashes, including two with injuries.
  • In Division 4, covering southwest Virginia, troopers handled 21 crashes, including four with injuries.
  • In Division 5, covering Hampton Roads, troopers worked 26 crashes, including two with injury.
  • In Division 7, which covers Northern Virginia, troopers responded to 15 crashes, including three with injuries.

State police are encouraging drivers to follow messaging from the Virginia Department of Transportation and check road conditions online before traveling.

Troopers also warned that VDOT crews will be working throughout the day to clear roads and prevent refreezing.
