As the colder months set in, people are being reminded to take care when using hot water bottles. A health practitioner has warned they can lead to burns and scalds, reminding anyone with a hot water bottle to be aware of a little-known rule.

Janine Evans, an advanced practitioner occupational therapist at the Morriston centre, says she has seen a rise in the number of scald injuries caused by hot water bottles each year.

Such injuries typically occur when older, degraded hot water bottles break, spilling hot water - or with improper use, such as filling them with boiling water.

Ms Evans issued a reminder to anyone who uses hot water bottles to replace them every two years, even if it appears to still be in good condition. View 2 Images
