Another emotional moment of the night came when Spare 10 For Ben scooped the Health and Wellbeing Award.

The charity was set up and named after a young man named Ben – who took his own life in January 2020 when he was just 20 years old.

Since then, his family’s primary goal has been to promote mental health and well-being across East Durham.

The nomination read: “Spare 10 for Ben offers accessible mental health resources, including Ben Boxes, one-to-one addiction support, and holistic therapies like Reiki and Acupuncture.

“They also create safe spaces for connection and support through initiatives like Ben’s Club, where individuals can share experiences and enjoy a free meal in the company of others.”
