Prime Minister Mark Carney met privately Friday with U.S. President Donald Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, with no staff in the room.

Trump said earlier in the day that the three leaders would talk about trade during their meeting at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., during a FIFA World Cup event , and that he gets along well with both leaders.

The three met for about 45 minutes, although it's not yet clear what was discussed and what was the tone of their conversation.

It marks the first private meeting between Carney and Trump since the U.S. president abruptly ended trade talks in October in response to an anti-tariff ad by the Ontario government.
