OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Nebraska Rep. Don Bacon is calling on Congress to reject a proposal to remove nursing from the definition of a professional degree.
The U.S. Department of Education shared its plans to remove the profession from the definition in late November. With the change, nursing students would not have access to higher loan limits.

Health groups, including the Nebraska Hospital Association, fear the move would only worsen the state and national nursing shortage.
“I agree with the concerns, people need loans and it is very much necessary... I would support efforts to restore the status quo there,” Bacon said in a virtual news conference Thursday.
