Chemistry isn’t created overnight.

But it came just in time for the Lompoc girls basketball team’s home opener.

The Braves rallied from a 10-point deficit to down Newport Harbor High School 46-39 in the Bryan Ayer Classic on Thursday night.

It was Lompoc’s first win of the season.

“I just really feel on any given day we can compete,” Braves coach Claudia Terrones said. “Everything we are doing at practice is really carrying over now. We didn’t see that a few weeks ago.”

The Sailors definitely had a height advantage with their 6-foot-1 point guard Morgan Starkenburg, but the Braves weren’t intimidated.

Lompoc jumped out to an early lead with scores by Tessa Terrones, Tara Terrones, and Madi Caballero, but midway through the first quarter, Newport Harbor made its run.
