Instead, Stellantis said it will build the vehicle in Illinois.

Now, Canadian lawmakers are preparing to serve Stellantis with a "notice of default," which is essentially a warning of a breach of contract that typically precipitates a lawsuit.

Canada's federal government is escalating an ongoing dispute with Stellantis over a broken promise to build a Jeep vehicle in the country.
