Tulare police are warning residents about scam text messages from individuals posing as department detectives and attempting to obtain personal information.
In an advisory, the department said legitimate detectives will never request personal details by text unless the person has already spoken with them and received a direct number.
Police urged anyone who receives an unsolicited message claiming to be from a Tulare detective not to respond, and to call the department at (559) 684-4290 to verify before sharing any information.
Residents are also encouraged to report any suspicious texts to police as officials work to curb the scam.
