SPRINGFIELD — Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and at least 24 other mayors around the country have issued bipartisan calls to save programs providing supportive housing for the chronically homeless.
At risk are “ housing first” programs putting roofs over the heads of about 3,800 people statewide and 170,000 across the country.
Sarno has signed on to a statement by the U.S. Conference of Mayors . U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, U.S. Rep. Richard E. Neal and Democratic colleagues already have called for supportive housing funding to continue, as have a group of Republican Congress members .
