Meghan Markle has extended an olive branch to her estranged dad Thomas Markle .

After the 81-year-old had his left leg amputated , the Duchess of Sussex connected with Thomas, who has been living in the Philippines. As her spokesperson told People Dec. 5, “I can confirm she has reached out to her father."

Thomas had undergone the operation after a blood clot was found in the leg, his son—and Meghan’s half-brother— Tom Markle Jr. told the Daily Mail .

"My dad is being very brave," the 59-year-old said in an interview published on Dec. 5. "His foot turned blue and then black. It happened very quickly. I took him to a local hospital and they did some scans and an ultrasound and said the leg had to be amputated."
