Chatham County District Attorney Shalena Cook Jones stated that the release of murder victim J.T. Schroeder’s body before an autopsy was performed was not the result of a “miscommunication,” but rather an oversight—an instance of failure and professional negligence.

After Delano Middleton allegedly stabbed Schroeder in the neck on Oct. 23, Schroeder was taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center and died there four days later. His organs were harvested for donation on Oct. 31, and although an autopsy was scheduled, it ultimately never happened , as previously reported.
