ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Atlanta police are investigating a shooting that left one person seriously injured overnight.

At around 3 a.m. on Friday, officers were called to Peyton Place SW, where they found the man in his late 20s or early 30s shot in the neck. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Peyton Place SW was blocked off all morning as the investigation continued, with officers searching for video footage and witnesses.

Investigators believe the incident was an attempted break-in. Officers said they found a crowbar outside the front door where the man was found shot.

Police briefly detained a man at the scene, who said he was the home’s resident. He had two handguns on him and said his house had previously been broken into.
