ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —

The proposed $80 billion deal between Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery has local filmmakers in New Mexico contemplating its potential impact on the local and national film industry, and subscribers for both platforms.

Ross Marks, a New Mexico filmmaker and professor at New Mexico State University, emphasized the importance of the theatrical experience, saying, "I really believe strongly in the theatrical experience. I believe movies are meant to be seen on the big screen with surround sound, with an audience, that communal experience."

Marks is aware that the deal would mean Netflix integrating popular movies from the Harry Potter franchise and the DC Universe, essentially including anything on HBO Max as part of Netflix's offerings.
