LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
The Louisville Metro Police Department is mourning the death of Lt. Nick Dewees, who died this week after a three-year battle with cancer.
The Louisville Metro Police Foundation has launched a fundraiser to support his family.
Dewees is the third officer from LMPD’s First Division to die in recent years.
His friends used these words to describe him: “Peace.” “Funny.” “Caring.” “Loyal.”
They say that despite undergoing treatment for cancer, he never stopped showing up for those who depended on him. He continued being a father, a husband to his high school sweetheart, and a baseball coach the kids adored.
“Nick was a very great personality. When he walks up, it is an instant calm,” said Lt. Joseph Fox
His friends say Dewees was never defined by his diagnosis.
