KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - Hy-Vee teamed up with local first responders to distribute 200 hams to area families in need as part of the eighth annual Hams for the Holiday promotion.
The event drew a surge of customers driving around the Hy-Vee building as volunteers handed out the donated hams. Hormel donates 5,000 hams annually to be distributed at Hy-Vee locations across the country.
“People are happy to see us. A lot of times, we deal with people at their worst. They’re needing our help. For some, they’ve been injured or they’ve been involved in a situation that they need law enforcement involvement. So today, it feels good to be able to see all those smiling faces and everybody’s getting ready for the holiday season,” said Captain Mike Young of the Kearney Police Department.
