SPRINGFIELD — The temporary loss of service at Mercy Medical Center’s Family Life Center threats access to maternity and newborn health care, said Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and other city officials in a meeting this week with the state.
Merc y Medical Center, owned by Trinity Health, will stop, it says temporarily, maternity and newborn services Monday. Trinity cites a lack of staff.
“We will continue to monitor this situation closely,” Sarno said in a statement Friday. “I am hopeful that Baystate and Mercy will preserve this vital public health service to expecting mothers and their infants. Anything less is unacceptable.”
News broke over the summer that Baystate and Mercy are in talks that could result in the acquisition or merger of the two Springfield hospitals.
