CLEVELAND, Ohio — Former Shaker Heights High School basketball star Terry Rozier and his childhood friend will be arraigned Monday in federal court in Brooklyn, New York, on charges tied to a sweeping sports-betting scandal that has rocked the NBA.
Federal prosecutors say Rozier, 31, and DeNiro Laster, 30, conspired to rig prop bets, or wagers on individual player statistics, by sharing information about Rozier’s performance during a March 2023 NBA game, when he played for the Charlotte Hornets.
Rozier told Laster he planned to fake an injury early in the game, allowing bettors to cash in on wagers that he would underperform, according to the charges. The men face conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering.
