A driver fled after hitting and killing a woman Friday evening in Springfield, Massachusetts, police said.

The pedestrian was hit at the intersection of State Street and Federal Street, according to Ryan Walsh, a public information officer with the Springfield Police Department.

Officers responded around 6:20 p.m. The woman was transported to Baystate Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.

Authorities did not immediately give a description of the vehicle.

The crash is under investigation.
