Don’t call me a Luddite. The Nuclear Test Ban Treaty was adopted in 1963 and has been signed by nearly all countries in the world. It was soon followed by the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty NPT). These were the result of mankind’s recognition of “Mutual Assured Destruction” (MAD), should nuclear war ever unfold.

Is it time to consider another MAD ban in light of predictions about the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI)? Like constructive uses of nuclear energy, there are apparent constructive uses of AI that are and should continue to be utilized. But rendering work optional? To work is human....
