The Edmonton Oilers have started the season a little slower than anyone expected. Sitting at 12- 11- 5 and fifth in the Pacific Division, the team still hasn’t found its rhythm. A big part of that comes down to their defense and their goaltending. Edmonton is giving up 3.5 goals per game, which makes life tough no matter how much offensive talent you have.
Stuart Skinner, now in his fourth season as the team’s starter, has carried most of the load. He has appeared in 20 games so far, posting a 9-8-3 record. While there have been stretches where he looks sharp, the inconsistency at crucial moments has continued to raise concerns about whether the Oilers can rely on him long term. Backup Calvin Pickard has struggled to provide support, which has only intensified the pressure on Skinner.
