The historic centre of São Paulo was decorated with Christmas lights and projections to highlight the architectural heritage of Latin America’s largest city.
The façades of the Catedral da Sé featured synchronized projections of Catholic symbols and traditions, drawing crowds to the city center.
“It had been a long time since we’ve seen the lights like this. It’s the most beautiful sight, especially here at Catedral da Sé,” said Giovana Buratto, who was visiting with her family.
"For us Catholics, seeing the Catedral da Sé symbolizing Christmas and the birth of Jesus is truly beautiful and very moving."
In addition to the illuminated landmarks, public squares are hosting family-friendly attractions.
A temporary ice skating rink has been opened at Largo São Bento — an unusual sight during São Paulo’s hot summer.
The area also offers choir performances featuring classic Christmas repertoires in open-air spaces near the decorated sites.
A special “Santa Claus Village” has also been set up, with appearances by Santa delighting both children and adults.
Pedro Romão, who has worked as Santa Claus for six years, said he had never seen such high demand.
“People are paying more attention to Christmas and Santa Claus because Santa Claus is scarce nowadays — there aren’t many left. Many people have hired Santas this year, and many others are being left without one.”
