Odisha will not open any new liquor shops across the state, Excise Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan informed the Assembly on Saturday.

Responding to an unstarred question, the minister clarified that the government has taken a firm decision to halt the expansion of OFF and CL liquor outlets.

Harichandan stated that several liquor shops and bars have already shut down due to multiple reasons. These include public objections, ongoing court cases, illegal trade activities, and insolvency among license holders.

He emphasised that the government is committed to regulating the liquor trade and addressing concerns raised by communities. The closures reflect a broader effort to ensure accountability and transparency in excise operations.
