The Nov. 2 fatal shooting at an Airbnb in Bath Township unfortunately is not unusual in Northeast Ohio.
An estimated 1,700 people in 2024 died from gun-related injuries [including homicides, suicides and accidents] in Ohio, 13% higher than the national average, according to USAFacts.org.
Meanwhile, out of the 50 states, Ohio ranks 30 th in gun law strength based on the criteria of EveryTownReserch.org, since only 12 of the suggested 50 laws are in place. In our country, gun violence accounts for more deaths of children 1-17 years of age than any other illness or injury.
Yet, with gun laws already so weak and young people at risk, the legislature is looking over Senate Bill 303 , which would allow the purchase of handguns for those ages 18-20, contrary to current federal law.
