PHOENIX — A Mesa man was sentenced to nine years in prison for selling fentanyl that led to a fatal overdose, officials announced.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona, 24-year-old Dominik Israel Lopez pleaded guilty to distribution of fentanyl resulting in death.

Lopez’s nine year prison sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release.

“At the end of every drug overdose death are countless victims,” United States Attorney Timothy Courchaine said in the announcement. “There are the dead, taken too early, families who lose loved one and communities slowly being torn apart.
